Intelligent Systems Engineering

The future of engineering and technology

At Indiana University, we’re engineering tomorrow. Intelligent systems engineering will teach you how to create systems that sense and react to their environments. Using artificial intelligence and computing, we gather, interpret, and analyze data to improve human health or environmental sustainability. From high performance computing and cloud technology to nanofabrication, small-scale devices, and the Internet of Things, intelligent systems engineering provides you with the skills you need to shape the future.

Prospective students may be interested in exploring ISE People and ISE Research encompassing

Our students are pushing the boundaries of what engineering can be—from innovating with big data and intelligent systems to tapping into synergies in hardware and software, including those inspired by living systems. Sensor and detector technologies, signal processing, high-performance simulation, and user interface design are at the foundation of our design-centered approach. Our human health related research include medical devices, molecular and nanoscale materials, and environmental sensors in living organisms.

You’ll also enjoy the advantages of a new program. Your education will be practical and hands-on from your first day while breaking traditional disciplinary barriers. You’ll develop and guide your future with an opportunity to make your mark through high-priority research. ISE draws on the interdisciplinary strengths of IU and those of the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering—one of the largest, broadest, and most accomplished schools of its kind. IU’s world-class supercomputing and cyberinfrastructure resources and its longstanding excellence in fields such as science, technology, business, and law add a valuable multidisciplinary aspect to your education.
